About Run 4 Recovery

My amazing and most dedication boss Robin M is doing a Bike run to support individuals that are struggling with addiction helping them restore their lives and establish a new one! He does this run every year! Who does this? someone who CARES and is welling to go above and beyond!! BOOM You go Robin.

Run 4 Recovery / Ride 4 Recovery has easily become one of the most deeply meaningful aspects of my life and personal recovery. This year’s Journey of 500 miles (approx. 40-60 miles per day x10 days) is down historic Highway 1 through the wine country of Ventura and the canyons of Los Angeles to bring support and attention to the suffering chemically dependent individual and their families. Without the generosity of the donations raised for food and shelter given by the Puente House Foundation there would be little hope for those in need

28 years ago (5 years before got clean and sober) I was beat-up and robbed in the Charlie Hotel in San Francisco. I jumped out a 3rd story window off a fire escape to the ground. Consequently I broke both of my feet and spent almost a year in a wheel chair, convalescing at my mother’s home in Orange County. People have asked me “What is wrong with you” , “You must be crazy to run 200 miles on foot for 10 days, two years in a row, and then to ride 500 miles on a bike for 10 days three years in a row.” The truth is I am a bit crazy with hope, hope for the people who can and will recover from this deadly disease of addiction. With our help. Thank you!

Sincerely, Robin McGeough

If you want to know how to help someone struggling with a substance abuse, the “Stages of Change” concept is a good starting point. It’s based on the theory that behavioral change is a gradual process involving several common stages. If you can figure out which stage your loved one is at, you may be able to help them more effectively. For more information check out our presentation on Stages of change video on you-tube!

The stages of change are:

Precontemplation -Not yet acknowledging that there is a problem behavior that needs to be changed
Contemplation -Acknowledging that there is a problem but not yet ready or sure of wanting to make a change
Preparation/Determination – Getting ready to change
Action/Willpower – Changing behavior
Maintenance -Maintaining the behavior change
Relapse- Returning to older behaviors and abandoning the new changes
